I recently bought a scarf. I thought I liked it. Turns out I didn't. And the next thing you know the time to get a refund dries up. I know, it was a smart move on my part - bet you've been there before too! So then I was stuck with a scarf which was not really to my tastes. I decided to give it a bit of a revamp, because hey, who doesn't love a snazzed up bit of clothing? Here is where fashion met DIY. Oh yes, I got crafty...
First up, I got my stock. It took several items to complete this amazing yet very simple design. You will need: Cardboard, Scissors, Glue, The material item, Fabric paint & a paint brush
Its all very simple. So simple that anyone can do it. Pick a shape you want to work with and get cutting. You can use a template or draw an outline of your design like I did onto cardboard and get cutting. I decided to do some turtles - because they are cute. Who doesn't like a turtle? Its the way to go. Once you have your shape cut out glue it to a square piece of cardboard and voila the stamp is made. The more detailed you go with your cutting, the more detailed a print you are going to get. Remember that.
Pick your colour or colours. Make sure they go compliment the colour of the fabric. Use a paint that won't wash out - I recommend fabric paint. You can get them for around £3 a pot in craft stores or online. I apply the paint with a brush or glue stick. So I can get an even spread. Its more affective then dipping the stamp into paint. When stamping remember to stretch the material tight. If your surface is wobbly, things get very messy. Its not nice. Stamp away and let it dry. See? Simple as pie. I left mine with a slightly faded edge. If you want it to be even in colour, Whack a paint brush over it to fill in those patches. Its a quick fix ensuring a beautiful finish.
Lets just say - 'I love the scarf now'...
