Look after your lashes | Tips & Tricks

If your addicted to your mascara then you may want to read this. I have thrown together a few tips that you can take on board to look after your lashes. Mascaras tend to strip the oils from your lashes on a daily basis. And no one likes brittle lashes. Here are some tips & tricks that can help you to keep them in tip top shape!

Keep your lashes moisturised

Mascaras can really dry your lashes out. If your addicted to combing mascara through your lashes or you wear it daily, then you will know what I am talking about. And once your lashes start drying up they become very prone to breakage. I talk from experience. Make this a part of your night time beauty treatment and using a cotton bud, coat your lashes in Castor oil. Castor Oil is very good for keeping your lashes nourished and giving it a bit of love. If you cannot seem to get your hands on castor oil - Coconut Oil, Olive Oil or Lanolin Oil will also be useable. Try to do this every day. Your lashes need it!

Use a Mascara Primer

If your addicted to mascara, then this is a must. Mascara Primers are designed to prevent your lashes drying out from your mascara. It conditions them and keeps them nice and healthy. Whilst it also keeps that mascara on for longer, it has the nice added benefit of keeping your lashes in tip, top condition. Smashbox's Layer Lash Primer is a good option to go for. Start by preventing your lashes from growing brittle with a primer.

Use an oil based make up remover

When you throw on large amounts of mascara, you will often find that whilst your cleansing and ridding yourself of makeup, lashes have the tendency to fall out. I find that by using a very good eye make up remover, this happens less. To clear your eye make up off effectively, you will want to find yourself an oil based eye make up remover that can remove even waterproof makeup. The one that I cannot part from is Clarins Instant Eye Make up Remover. The oil loosens up the make up instantly. Oil based products are the best way to gently remove make up from your face. I would strongly suggest using an eye make up remover before going onto cleansing your face.

Chuck your mascaras out every 3-6 months

Every beauty blogger and their dog knows this basic rule. And when it comes to keeping your lashes in good condition - This is not one to break. Mascaras typically get drier as time goes on. They have a shelf life of 3 to 6 months. If you continue using your mascara past this time you end up putting a drying formula onto your lashes. And because the formula is dry it really strips the oils off your lashes. Using a mascara that is drying out has really unhealthy consequences for your lashes. So stick to the rule and you will be fine.

  3. Great post - I think it's really interesting as most of us tend to take our lashes forgranted! I wonder if the new Rimmel mascara with argan oil is a good alternative to other mascaras, to keep lashes as healthy as possible!

  10. I'm not sure if it makes a difference, but I way prefer the silicon applicators to the fibre ones. They seem like they'd be a little more hygienic

  12. I get my eyelashes tinted so I try to be extra careful, I find that putting vaseline on them before applying mascara keeps them in great condition and it prevents clumping too!
