Breakfast - 'The Smoothie Bowl'

At breakfast I have been making a refreshing dish called 'The Smoothie Bowl'. Its a nice way to start your day! Whilst you can create a smoothie bowl in lots of different ways, this is the recipe I have been sticking to the most

This is a really tasty recipe to make yourself in the early mornings. Its quick to make and lets you eat your fill of '5 a day' all in one bowl. The recipe is light, refreshing and full of healthy ingredients. The banana and the oats are also a great source of energy to help drive you through your morning. You can adapt this recipe to make a variety of different smoothie bowls and make it to suit your tastes. This recipe is perfect for Vegans and those who are Plant-Based.

The Ingredients:

300g of Strawberries, Blueberries and Raspberries

Your first ingredient is a mix of fresh (or frozen) Strawberries, Blueberries and Rasperries. Strawberries are a great source of anti-oxidants which help to boost collagen production in your skin. Blueberries are amazing at boosting your skin's elasticity and connective tissue. The skin of a blueberry has powerful anti-ageing properties. Whilst Raspberries help to strengthen skin, hair and nails.

1 Frozen banana

Slice up a banana and freeze it in a container. When you blend the banana together with other fruits, it creates a thick ice cream like consistency for your breakfast. Banana's are a great source of energy to kick start your morning.

A handful of Oats

Oats are a great source of vitamins for your hair. The nutrients found in oats help to protect and maintain strong, healthy looking hair. Oats also contain a nutrient called Selenium which helps to prevent anti-aging in skin and benefit your skins elasticity.

1 Apple

The skin of an apple contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties. Eating the skin of an apple can help to defend your skin against free radical damage. Apples can help to protect skin from ageing and can even lower your cholesterol. I slice mine up unpeeled as a topping.

Green Grapes (Option: Frozen)

Grapes have a compound called 'Resveratrol' that according to research can help to protect your DNA and slow down the process of ageing. Whilst it is said that purple grapes are better, I love green grapes! I like to freeze my grapes and add them on as a topping. They are like mini ice lollies once frozen! You can choose to add them on frozen or fresh.

The Recipe:

1. Put your mix of berries (leave some aside for decoration) and your frozen banana into a blender and blend away until you get a smoothie like consistency. If you would like to sweeten it further add some 'Agave Nectar' into the mix.

2. Pour your smoothie into a bowl and add your toppings (Make it look pretty and then photograph it for Instagram). In this dish I chose fresh blueberries, Sliced apple, frozen grapes and a sprinkle of Oats to add further energy. You can however, switch it up and make it your own!

3. Now eat and enjoy. Its that simple!

  2. I've never actually tried a smoothie bowl before but I do have acai bowls pretty regularly so I'm guessing I'd love something like this because they seem really similar! I'd have never thought to add grapes though, I'm definitely a granola girl all the way.
